A modern Caulfield meets Harold and Maude with an ADHD twist—Raw, Darkly Witty, Achingly Real
“Axel’s writing crackles with energy and hard-won insight, capturing Oscar’s inner monologue in a way that feels both authentic and deeply relatable.” — BookLife Reviews (Editor’s Pick)
Oscar Danielsson is eighteen, brilliantly ADHD, and about to ruin his life—again.
He'd rather hide in his room than face high school graduation. Between his spectacular mistakes, self-medicating, and overwhelming existential dread, getting out of bed feels harder than getting into Northwestern. His only friend? His aging spaniel. His biggest fear? Everyone discovering he's not as promising as they expect. Then, one hazy mistake too many launches Oscar on a mysterious cross-country road trip with his free-wheeling Grammy—who's done playing by the rules. Leaving behind his girl crush, beloved dog, and all his comforting vices is torture. But Oscar discovers that even a journey based on a lie can lead to the most honest destination.
Oscar is the defiant anti-hero you can't stop rooting for. Grammy is his unlikely wingman.
Together they'll melt, break, and then repair your heart.
Promising Young Man is a powerful exploration of belonging that doesn't shy away from the messy truth of growing up or growing older. Perfect for readers who loved The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Virgin Suicides, A Man Called Ove, or On the Road, and anyone - in high school, college, or deep in their career - who's ever felt like a square peg in a round world or watched someone they love struggle to fit in.

Wait for the Ricochet
by Ed Pikone
A Collection of Short Stories
Ed is the 1,707th ranked poker player in Illinois. A mathlete in high school, he went on to study engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign where Hal, the AI in 2001 A Space Odyssey was created. He co-wrote a never published book about the mathematics of fantasy sports and worked as an actuary. Inspired by the insight that words might perhaps be as important as numbers, he graduated from DePaul University with a Juris Doctor degree and went on to work for one of the world’s largest law firms specializing in pension plan law. An award-winning screenplay writer and filmmaker (his films can now be seen on his newly created and almost never visited YouTube channel Griffonfilms) he began writing short stories in 2019. He believes in the existence of an objective reality while admitting that, as humans, each of us is offered only an incomplete, imperfect glimpse of it. In an interview about his creative process, he said “I’m more interested in raising questions than providing answers, but sometimes it’s difficult not to show what you know, even when you’re wrong.” In his spare time, he applies acrylic paint to canvas creating abstract works one of which he sold, to his mother. In his list of all time great novels, he ranks War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov in a tie.
